Early Signs Of Pregnancy
Most women equate missing of a period with the most prominent and earliest sign of pregnancy. However, there are some early signs of pregnancy before missed period. They may not be so prominent but if a woman monitors herself properly, she can easily detect them. Let us have a look at some of these early signs of pregnancy.
The changes in breasts may manifest itself as the very early signs of pregnancy. The general feelings of breasts being tender, swollen, and painful indicate that a pregnancy is very likely to have occurred. There are some women who notice their breasts to be full and heavy and this sign can occur as early as one or two weeks of pregnancy.
Rise in the basal body temperature is also considered to be an early sign. However, a woman should know the difference of the pattern of rise in basal body temperature under normal circumstances and during pregnancy. In normal ovulation, the rise in basal body temperature continues throughout ovulation till the time when the woman gets her next periods. In contrast, after fertilization, the basal body temperature is elevated and it does not drop down till the next periods.
Gastrointestinal signs are really prominent at the time when a woman gets pregnant. These mainly pertain to the increased levels of hormones in the body. They develop morning sickness which is usually manifested in the form of nausea and vomiting and constipation, which occurs because progesterone decreases the gut motility as a result of which excretory system gets affected. Furthermore, the higher brain centres start to sense more hunger, therefore a pregnant woman starts craving for more food in order to compensate the energy stores being consumed in her body due to pregnancy.
While a woman may complain of missing her period, she might also complain of a small spot of bleeding. This is mainly seen in the 2 weeks following ovulation. Here, the fertilized egg burrows in the uterine lining as a result of which, there is spotted bleeding. This is also counted amongst the early signs of pregnancy.
Moreover, during the initial stages of pregnancy, the body is utilizing excessive energy in order to build a ground base for the embryo to flourish into a foetus and then pass out as a baby. So, due to the extreme usage of energy, a woman feels really exhausted once she steps into first few weeks of her pregnancy.
The frequency of urination increases during the first and the last trimester. This is because in early pregnancy, the uterus starts to push more on the bladder as a result of which, the brain senses the need to urinate.
These were few of the signs of pregnancy. A woman may notice one, some, or all of these signs if she gets pregnant. It is advised to take a visit to the obstetrician when these signs appear.
